Andras Kanos regards the US presidential election as a laughable scenario and he bemoans a political system that produces the likes of Barack Obama’s “eight wasted years”.
I however truly admire the US political system because it produces the best of the best. I am fascinated by the many outstanding speakers whose intelligence is unquestionable and their sincerity is second to none in seeking support. Openness and transparency are such that very little information about candidates can be hidden.
After competition for the nomination within each party, the two best people fight for votes from the whole nation. Though not a perfect system, it does achieve a reasonable result, even if it is disliked by foreigners like Andras Kanos of Hungary. His extreme critical description of a circus-like atmosphere, ‘obnoxious’ nominees, robot-like cheering, a harebrained election system and money politics is factual. But that is only a part of US politics, not significant enough to override a leader who will be respected domestically and recognised as the world’s leader.
The quaintness of US politics is the least harmless when compared with others that may turn out to be life-threatening.
