Meditate on the folly of mixing politics and religion

Re: “The missing Buddhist trick”, Opinion, yesterday.

I began reading this strange article in the hope that it might have some edifying insights into vipassana meditation. But it soon became evident that the writer was more interested in slamming Hinduism, with its “gory ... rituals and obscurantist beliefs”, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The writer concludes with obscure references to people whom he never names, followed by pious praise of the Buddhist doctrine of anicca (impermanence).
My conclusion is that the writer needs to do more vipassana, think seriously about the folly of mixing religion with politics in his writing, and try cultivating the Buddhist virtue of upekkha (equanimity).
