Privy Council takes oath before King

Privy Council takes oath before King

HIS MAJESTY King Maha Vajiralongkorn yesterday thanked the newly appointed Privy Council who took the oath of loyalty to the monarchy.

The King urged them to perform their duties to protect and maintain stability of the monarchy institution and the Kingdom.
There are many tasks to carry out, therefore the council needs to prioritise work, the King said. “I shall ask for advice and prioritise the work in accordance with national policies. I have confidence in your abilities as many of you have served during the previous reign,” the King said.
Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda led 10 privy councillors to take the oath at Ambhorn Sathan Villa in Dusit Palace. They pledged to be loyal to His Majesty the King and faithfully perform their duties in the interests of the country and the people. They said they would also uphold and abide by the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand in every respect.
Three of the 10 newly appointed councillors are former members of the National Council for Peace and Order – former justice minister Paiboon Koomchaya, former Army chief Teerachai Nakwanich and former education minister Dapong Ratanasuwan.
The other seven were privy councillors under the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and were reappointed. Most of the 10 advisers are known to be close to Prem.
