15-year-old Thasaporn Naklo and her Japanese partner Anri Nagata reached the junior Australian Open doubles semi-final following a 6-3 6-4 win over Astrid Brune Olsen and Malene Helgo of Normay on Wednesday.

“This is beyond expectation. I didn’t expect to win the second round (with second seed Olga Danilovic of Serbia and Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine) as one of them (Danilovic) won the Junior French Open doubles last year,” said the grade 10 student of Assumption Thonburi School.

“But the more we play, the more compatible we become. We communicate all the time with our game plan and our game is getting better,” said the world No 98 junior and her teammate who will next play Maja Chwalinska and Iga Switatek of Poland who the American pair of Taylor Johnson and Nicole Mossmer 6-2 7-5.

“We just lost to them last week. The Pole girls lost to no team when they won the World Junior under 16 last year in Hungary. I hope we can give them a tougher match than last week.”

Thasaporn, the 2014 WTA Future Star in Singapore in 2014, is vying to become the first Thai to win a Grand Slam junior doubles title after Noppawan Lertcheewakarn at the 2008 US Open with Sandra Roma.
