Britain still in Great shape

Re: “Released from the EU Cage, Great Britain set to roar again”, Letters, March 3.

What a pool of paranoia the ardent letter-writer Mr Wilcox is. I am glad to inform him there is little resentment against the English or Scots in Myanmar now (a part of which was once called “tropical Scotland”), where today’s English tourists are met with warmth and friendliness. Burma was once regarded as the “Northern Ireland of the British Empire” because of its resistance to colonial rule.
Also I am pleased to inform him that memories of the Opium Wars are fading, which is good news for any Englishman seeking a Chinese bride. By the way, it is officially the Republic of China, not the Republic of Taiwan, as opposed to the People’s Republic of China.
Britain has continued to trade with the world as an EU member, as the British foodstuffs in Bangkok supermarkets bear witness. Britain’s economy today is mainly based on financial services. The City of London might not fare as well being outside the EU. Remember that Beirut was once the financial centre of the Middle East. Due to political instability, that position is held now by Dubai.
On financial matters I am sure Mr Wilcox is not happy that the pound in his pocket is worth less than before the referendum.
