On Monday, Ariya became just the 10th player in LPGA history to ascend to the top of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and the first player from Thailand to achieve the honor.
“I think they are really excited about that and I’m really happy to be representing Thailand, and I’m very proud of myself that I can make them happy,” the new No. 1 said.
Ariya took the top spot from Lydia Ko who had held the honor for the past 85 weeks. Despite the accomplishment, she isn’t taking anything for granted this week at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give.
“I didn’t feel like I takeover from Lydia, you know, and especially right now the points still really close,” Jutanugarn admitted. “And like we know she’s an amazing player, she can win in any tournament.”
