Four centuries of glassware to be exhibited in Bangkok

Chanintr Living, Thailand’s sole dealer of Saint-Louis glassware, will soon host a touring exhibition “The Four Seasons”.

Founded in 1586, Saint-Louis is the oldest glass manufacturer in France and has been making crystal glassware since 1781.

The collection – on exhibit from August 1 to 31 in Saint-Louis showroom on the third floor at Siam Paragon – has as its theme “Saint-Louis’ Forest”, alluding to a return to the roots of all creation and the colours of the four seasons.

Saint-Louis originally gained distinction for its crystal tableware. Amid a boom in the creative arts in the 19th century, culminating with the Universal Expositions, crystal works were full of ingenuity.

The firm made chandeliers, vases, cups and table centrepieces in filigreed, fully coloured, double and even triple-layered (opaline) crystal.

The coming exhibition reveals the richness of the Saint-Louis decorative collections through a wide selection of heritage, prestige and current pieces.

The factory, located in the heart of the Vosges Forest, whose tempo is set by the seasons, lends the collection its hues in tableware, vases, chandeliers and lighting items crafted by master glassblowers and cutters.

These artisans possess irreplaceable knowledge and ancestral skills that have been enriched from generation to generation. The crystal is mouth-blown, hand-cut, hand-engraved and hand-decorated, using 24-carat gold or platinum.

The exhibition will be open daily from 10 to 7. Find out more at (02) 129 4577.
