Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has congratulated Phuket musician Nene Royal on her America’s Got Talent (AGT) victory while on official business in New York. Deputy government spokesperson Ploythalay Laksameesaengjan announced the message on September 24, 2026.
Anutin praises Nene’s talent and determination
Anutin, who also serves as interior minister, praised Nene’s talent, determination and efforts throughout the competition, describing her victory as a source of pride for people across Thailand, according to Ploythalay.
Ploythalay said the result demonstrated both the potential of young Thais and their confidence in taking their talents onto the international stage. Nene’s musical skills and distinctive performance style had impressed a broad audience, the deputy spokesperson added.
Nene’s rock performances lead to AGT victory
Nene’s path to the AGT title began with an audition combining powerful vocals and lead guitar on The Cranberries’ “Zombie”, earning four “yes” votes from the judges.
In the live quarter-finals, Nene performed Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun”, earning a Golden Buzzer from judge Mel B and a direct place in the final.
Nene competed against nine other acts at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California, performing The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” in the final on September 22, 2026. She was announced as the winner on September 23, with both dates given in US local time.
Government thanks Nene’s family and supporters
Ploythalay conveyed the government’s thanks to Nene, her family and everyone who supported her, crediting their combined efforts with showcasing Thai talent to audiences around the world.
Ploythalay described Nene’s achievement as evidence that young Thais could match their peers anywhere in the world when given opportunities and when they remained determined to develop their abilities.
Thailand’s government was ready to create more opportunities and spaces for children and young people to develop their talents fully, Ploythalay added, with the aim of helping the next generation build the country’s international reputation and bring further pride to Thailand.
