News that King Prajadhipok’s Institute has been accused of promoting networking among participants on its courses is worrying.
About six decades ago, an institute of a similar nature was founded in Thailand to offer education and training to combined groups of military officers, bureaucrats and businesspeople with the aim of strengthening the so-called “national defence” mechanism.
Since then, members of these groups have become so “well-acquainted” with one another that corruption in our country has soared to an unprecedented level.
Graft in our country remains deep-rooted and endemic.
Hence, the Prayut Chan-o-cha government should see to it that institutions do not add more to the pile of problems that the country is already facing.
