Beware the sinister, invisible hand of the editor
Re: “Hypocrisy, immigration bans and editing”, Nigel Pike, August 30.
Obviously, the editors make a decision on which letters to publish. It seems to be the case that this publication accepts a more divergent range of political opinions than do others, as many have stated.
However, another point needs to be made: not only do editors decide which letters to publish, they also edit them, deleting some sentences, and adding others, where necessary. This is worth bearing in mind when lambasting other writers for their grammar or the content of their messages. Sometimes people are criticised for something that they never wrote in the first place!
