I’m sure I speak for other readers when I say how relieved I am that my worries about Dr Frank’s health were baseless. For last week, his letter on the state of Thai further education was informed, thoughtful, well-written, and contained those rare curiosities in a Dr Frank letter – facts and information. Purple rhetoric, bile and ad hominem abuse were absent, and as I sipped my afternoon tea, I gazed up at the sky, certain this time of catching sight of that elusive flock of flying pigs.
But my fears were unfounded. Yesterday I turned to the Have Your Say page to find the equivalent of a squashed beetroot splattered into the newsprint. There it all was, Dr Frankfurt-School’s empty, mindless, ranting drivel in all its usual glory – “guano”, “dolt”, “kasi-stocracy”, “bog all” – shamelessly unpolluted by a even a single mote of information. Phew, thank goodness for that.
But I recall the suspicions of Have Your Say’s conspiracy theorists regarding the use of aliases and wonder – was the writer of that earlier letter on education REALLY Dr Frank?
