Coffee complaint typical of Thai disregard for the rules

Coffee complaint typical of Thai disregard for the rules

Re: “Sick of the big issues? Let’s take a coffee break”, Have Your Say, yesterday.

The letter by Yingwai Suchaovanich about being denied a “few drops of milk” for his black coffee (because it wasn’t in the recipe) might sound trivial, but it tells you something about Thai culture – that rules and regulations are meant to be broken, or at least bent.
Yingwai praised other Amazon branches for breaking the rules to please him, but he complained about the outlet on King Kaew Road that didn’t yield to his desire. If I were an owner at Amazon, I’d give the barista at the King Kaew branch a promotion and pay rise right away.
It is typical of Thais to praise people who break the rules to favour them, but bitch when they lose out to those who strictly follow them.
This is why everything here is so crooked. Those who break the rules are appreciated, and those who abide by them are condemned.
