Simply unfit to govern

Re: "Illusions about amnesty could be very costly", Editorial, November 19.

You rightly raise the questionable circumstances that surrounded the Cabinet meeting that approved the amnesty for prisoners in your editorial. This is entirely in character for the party that is nothing more than Thaksin’s plaything. The grubby shenanigans they put into play do show however that, firstly, they realise the gross insensitivity of the timing, and secondly that their sheer arrogance knows no bounds in cynically altering anything that obstructs Thaksin’s return, and thirdly that they have not the courage to complete this nefarious work in the open. They are acting entirely to form.
Clearly Thaksin is putting a bit of stick about, and chief hatchet man Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung is feeling the heat. The icing on the cake is, however, as you say, the pathetic way Thaksin’s sister tries to distance herself from this. This yet again shows how unfit for office she is, as she clearly cannot even understand that she, as prime minister, is ultimately responsible for everything her government does. Absenting herself from a Cabinet meeting whose only purpose was to put in place the machinery to bring back the beloved leader shows not only a pitiable lack of courage but gross political naivety.
