According to Thai Rath, an unnamed but leading bimonthly magazine asked her to be on the cover.
Sure, Um said, as long as Nadet Kumikiya is standing next to me in the photo. Otherwise, she was too busy to do the shoot. So the deal was done.
It’s understandable that Um, at her age – and despite her sky-high popularity, wants to give her public appearances that little extra zing. If she can pair up with TV’s highest paid and most popular male star, it cements her status as the queen of television.
A little respect
Thailand rarely gets a glance when Asian TV awards are up for grabs. The multinational studios are all in Hong Kong and Singapore and they hog the nominations.
Time for a change: Veterans Nirut Sirichanya and Duangdao Jarujinda are in contention as Best Supporting Actors at the upcoming 16th Asian Television Awards, and Nirut and young Pakin “Tono” Tanwilaisak are up for trophies as Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
Nirut is nominated for “Fai Amata”, in which he played businessman Vikrom Kromadit. Duangdao gets her second nomination for Channel 7’s “Luke Khon”. “I’m grateful to the station for the chance despite my age,” she says modestly, but the praise has been fulsome on the social networks – these guys never seem to get the credit they deserve locally.
“All of their work demonstrates their quality,” a visitor to Pantip.com pointed out. “Award or no award, audiences still love them and respect their work.”
Tono says he never saw the nomination coming for his role on Channel 5’s “Kam Wela Ha Rak”. He thought the production team was pulling his leg. Delighted to be in the running but dubious about his chances of winning, Tono’s mainly honoured to be on the same list as Nirut. “He’s my idol!”
Get ready to cheer on the home team. The Asian Television Awards will be dispensed next Thursday.
