Foreign Minister Surapong Towichukchaikul, in his attempt to present a new passport to Thaksin Shinawatra, can cause harm to the country and the Yingluck government.
It is wrong to think that, by winning 15 million votes in the July 3 election, the Yingluck government can do anything it pleases. The 15 million Pheu Thai supporters are not the country’s main taxpayers. It is the urban middle class – about 9 million of them – who pay most of the taxes in this country. They do not accept Thaksin as one of them because they believe he and his family are not honest people. Hence, the more attempts to save or salvage Thaksin’s name, the more resistance the government will meet.
