The brewers of Chang Beer are the team’s main sponsors.
Today’s game against Norwich City will see Everton players sporting the message “Power of Thai” alongside the Chang logo. That’s the name of the fund-raising campaign set up by Chang and other Thai firms under the banner “One flag unites Thailand”.
The campaign insignia incorporates the national flag and earned His Majesty the King’s personal seal of approval.
“The club welcomes the opportunity to support this real and worthwhile cause to help the people of Thailand recover from the terrible flooding,” Everton chief executive Robert Elstone says on the official website. “We consider Chang and the many Everton fans in Thailand to be very much a part of the extended Everton family, so we are delighted to be able to help.”
After the match, the players will autograph their jerseys to be sold in an online auction, all proceeds going to Power of Thai. You can watch the match on True Sport starting at 10pm.
Wedding deals
Nattawut “Por” Sakidjai, another of our flood-crisis heroes, has announced that he’ll marry his fellow actor and long-time sweetheart Pornthip “Ae” Wongkitjanon next May. “I can’t tell you the exact date,” he says, “but it looks like every day in May is fine because they’re all auspicious.”
They’ll have to nail down a precise date, of course, and they also have to decide whether it will be a traditional Thai celebration, something like a temple fair, as Por prefers, or a bit more posh of an occasion, which is what Ae wants.
“I understand,” the groom-to-be says. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event and she may prefer a lovely wedding in a big hotel.” Plus, temple fairs in May are brutally hot.
The compromise that’s emerging looks like a noisy party after all – just a little toned down in scale. Por figures Ae won’t object to that.
