Man-made rivers only flood solution

There have been a number of "pie in the sky" proposals put forth for Thailand's future flood control and flood prevention, but two facts remain - the Chao Phraya River is and will most likely remain the primary repository and exit path for flood waters an

Short, man-made rivers to the southwest and south of the port at Klong Toei could help shorten and straighten the route of the Chao Phraya’s waters and could help drain the river at an incredibly faster rate.
These short, man-made rivers would require vast amounts of land in some densely-populated areas but, as part of the plan, a short, man-made river from the Chao Phraya southwest through the delta to the ocean would encourage development there and would increase the property values tremendously in the delta area.
In my opinion, having lived near rivers all my life, short, man-made rivers are the most viable and most effective solutions to Thailand’s future flood control and flood prevention.
