Having fun on the go

An architect, a concert organiser and a chef get together to launch Thailand's first mobile bistro and bar

From today, foodies and bar hoppers can enjoy a new experience as the SangSom “MoveaBar”, a mobile bar and bistro, launches its service in Bangkok.
Architect Duangrit Bunnag, music and concert organiser Yutthana Boonorm and New York-based chef Ian Kittichai joined up to create “MoveaBar and are calling it a unique experience in terms of food and drinks, entertainment and ambience. And it’s not just Bangkok folk that are out to enjoy it, as the bar and bistro is set to travel to Pattaya, Phuket, Khon Kean and Chiang Mai.
The “MoveaBar” is set up at Asiatique The Riverfront on Charoenkrung Road on the banks of the Chao Phraya River front. Duangrit is in charge of the design of the temporary structure. “It’s like a canopy but nothing like you’ve seen before. It looks like structureless architecture, as the dome is inflated with air but there are good safety measures in place.”
Chef Ian, who has flown back to Thailand to oversee the food and drinks, has designed nine main dishes especially for this event. He has also created the drinks that will be the signature of the bistro and bar and match his menu. “The gimmick is that some dishes will also be adjusted based on the location. For example, the sausages are usually made of pork or beef but will be seafood sausages when we travel to Chiang Mai,” says the chef.
Yutthana aka “Pa Ted”, the man behind Big Mountain Music Festival, is in charge of the entertainment. The stage at MoveaBar is different in that Duangrit has designed it to ensure optimum visibility for every patron. “I think the music is one of the best things in the project as people who come will surely enjoy everything from the ambience to food and drinks.”
Pa Ted will bring 13 artists who will take turn to entertain the guests. The line-up includes 25 hours, Lipta, The Richman Toy, Tattoo Colour, T-bone, Thaitanium, Potato, Slot Machine, Scrubb and Da Endophine. In short, all music genres are in place. “Although it is a temporary setting, I don’t think anyone will feel it. It is very special and I hope everyone will indulge in this experience.”
