Pakistan upholds its claims over Kashmir

Re: "Pakistan cannot afford to pursue claims in Kashmir", Opinion, February 28.

Shashi Tharoor’s account of the Kashmir dispute is highly misleading, and his assessment of the “national mood” in Pakistan on this subject completely off the mark.
The whole piece is a classic example of imaginative “re-writing” of history and a stereotypical narrative of today’s Pakistan and its key national institutions. With an established record of Pakistan-bashing to his credit, the author has no credibility.
Moreover, his sweeping conclusion based on a few “private” conversations, an out-of-context quotation, and a single article raise serious questions about his methodology.
As the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad made clear on February 27, there is no change in Pakistan’s principled position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, and that Pakistan will continue supporting the Kashmiris’ right of self-determination as enshrined in the relevant United Nations resolutions.
