In the last few years, Thailand has seen unsettling events in the form of a tsunami, major flooding and terrorist activity. All of these are events that no one anticipated. Most likely Thailand’s next disaster will also be something that no one anticipates.
So, given that Thailand must try to prepare for any recurrence of past problems, as well as problems it has not experienced and is not anticipating, I wonder why Thai politicians are flirting with political conflict. You’d think their main concern would be preventing, not encouraging, more problems. At the least, they could give Thailand more of a chance to recover from the trauma of the recent flooding before inviting political and civil conflict. I just don’t understand.
