Macau’s Cotai Strip welcomes a sensational new addition, Sands Cotai Central, the latest integrated resort developed by Sands China Ltd. The property held an auspicious opening event last Wednesday with 84,000 guests gracing the ceremony.
The opening marks another milestone in the company’s effort to help the little island of Macau reach its full potential as an international business and leisure tourism destination.
An outdoor crowd of more than 5,000 people watched the 5pm opening celebration at the porte-cochere of the Conrad Macao, with queues extending more 400 metres around the building. The highlight of the event was the gravity defying sky walking act by Jade Kindar-Martin who traversed the 520-metre distance between Sands Cotai Central and The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel, while balancing 150 metres above the ground on a wire less than two centimetres thick.
After the doors opened, the first 12,000 visitors received a gift of a golden ingot featuring a limited edition lucky dragon charm. Some of the integrated resort’s restaurants reported being at full capacity shortly after opening, with queues quickly forming at the extremely popular Grand Orbit buffet restaurant. Up to 84,000 people visited Sands Cotai Central on the opening day.
Sands Cotai Central is a 1.27 million square metre, 6,400-room complex with convention facilities, casino space, restaurants, shopping complex and retail spaces. Guestrooms and convention offerings are provided by three major brands namely, the Conrad Hotel, Sheraton and Holiday Inn, making it the largest in the world for each of the three brands. With nearly 100 retail outlets, Shoppes Cotai Central joins The Grand Canal Shoppes and The Shoppes at Four Seasons to offer a total of more than 600 luxury duty-free stores to choose from – the most in any one single location in all of Macao. The property also offers 22,870sqm of gaming space in two, uniquely themed gaming centres.

The firm also owns a collection of property including The Venetian Macao and Four Seasons Hotel Macao at the company’s Cotai Strip, Sands Macao on the Macau Peninsula and the iconic Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, which opened last year.
