Hearty congratulations should go to Dusit Thani International for its implementation of the EarthCheck programme, which aims to help those in the hospitality industry achieve business sustainability whilst returning benefits to society. “Businesses do not need to just make money, but also to look for ways to contribute to communities and other stakeholders,” said Juergen Seidel, the Dusit Thani’s director of engineering.
The green concept requires companies to conserve nature, reduce their impact on the local environment, preserve local culture and to respect the local community. The group hopes other hotels understand the notion of sustainable tourism through social responsibility. Sadly, not all are as enlightened and some still cling on to older, more ruthless business models. However, the Dusit Thani Group’s leadership is empowering, and will undoubtedly yield some positive knock-on effects.
