All members of the ruling party are guilty by association with his activities. Does any constitution in any country (without dictatorship) allow its members to forgive themselves?
Does absolving Thaksin give him back his ill-gotten gains? This justifies armed insurrection, which was carried out for this reason. Is that a good precedent? Presumably the yellow shirts, who were born because of Thaksin’s generosity to himself while in office, will then be allowed back on the streets, armed this time. In this newborn democracy, will the red-shirt villages be allowed to thrive?
Truth and reconciliation starts with truth. Let the truth about Thaksin from 1998 be established and told to all. Reasoned judgement can then follow.
