The Army picks a winner

Congratulations to Pimsiri Sirikaew, Olympic weightlifting silver medallist and national heroine.
Also congratulations on receiving the numerous sponsorship deals, new condominium etc as recognition of your success.
However, I am perplexed as to why – in further recognition for her success in sport, she is then promised that a position will be found for her in the Army! Can you imagine a triumphant British rower or cyclist’s reaction to their Olympic medal success to be told, “You’re in the army now”? No, neither can I.
