Now it’s a producer’s turn. Kantana Group boss Jitlada “Tukta” Disayanan dumped a cat out of a bag on Facebook in the form of one of her leading actors and his alleged irresponsibility.
She’s fuming at his spending more time at marketing events than on the set. She begged his agent to be less greedy.
It was quite a long and unprecedented tirade from Tukta, but she says she’s seen too many selfish stars. As soon as your shooting schedule is settled, “you have no right to go out and accept other jobs”. Actors like that, she warned, won’t last long in the business.
Unsurprisingly, other top guns on the set agree with Tukta. “Yes!” producer Mayurachat “Jim” muenprasitniwete of Channel 3 replied. “There are so many people who want to get rich and popular just so they can go earn a living doing something else.”
Director Noppol “Tu” Gomarnrachun thanked Tukta for every word she wrote. “Nowadays I just hate the word ‘events’! If you weren’t a star, no one would hire you to appear at an event. Don’t they get that?”
Tukta concurred, adding a few more volleys: “Seventy per cent of the production cost goes to the stars’ fees, but they don’t earn the fees and they don’t respect the production team, who work the same long hours but receive much less.”
Tukta of course didn’t name anyone, although there were clues. The particular actor who set her off shuns work on weekends so he (or she) can do marketing events. And this person must be quite popular because he (or she) is much in demand for commercial gigs.
But the Facebook rant got so much attention that all of the stars and their agents – and the event organisers too – are probably having a second look at their schedules. Whether it makes any difference in the great greed sweepstakes remains to be seen.
