Beer and hard liquor are drunk by nearly everyone, including politicians and judges. Alcohol causes more harm than all other recreational drugs combined (all of which are illegal). Thailand's leaders are so busy drinking Johnnie Walker that they can’t think clearly about what’s harmful and what’s not – and wind up enacting laws that diametrically oppose common sense, and make criminals of decent people and allow the most dangerous to roam free.
I haven’t drunk alcohol or smoked pot for several decades. All drugs should be legal and taxed, and screw-ups dealt with by counselling. Ronald Reagan and all other country-leading idiots since him have tried to outlaw drugs, and they have all failed miserably. Indeed, every leader in the past 50 years who has clung to the ridiculous concept of a “war on drugs” has only made things worse overall. Drug-dealing kingpins are richer than Midas, while alcoholic drinks remain the only legal recreational drugs. Will your mother or brother or daughter be among tomorrow’s victims of a drunkard? Nobody ever knows until the curtain comes down with a thud.
