“Threatens impeachment if official who criticised rice scheme is harassed,” cried the sub-headline.
My humble opinion is that deputy permanent secretary Supa Piyajitti has already been harassed and bullied by those in power. Her findings were simply a statement of truth of poor administration of the scheme, which is making huge losses. Why should she be under investigation for being professional in answering the Senate committee’s questions? Casting doubt on her noble deed is a hooligan reaction, missing the power of reasoning. Supa deserves an honorary doctorate degree in accounting for this unselfish act from her alma mater, Thammasat University, which should be immensely proud of its former student.
I ask why the anti-corruption movements and the corporate-good-governance pressure groups are so silent on this episode when it is so opportune to highlight their causes. Possibly the wrongdoers are too powerful to touch, while people like Sorayuth Suthassanachinda are so easy to lambaste without fear of being hurt.
