'Job done,' says Schaefer as Muang Thong welcome back Desaeyere

Thai Premier League champions Muang Thong United have rehired Belgium's Rene Desaeyere as their new coach following the abrupt departure of former Thailand coach Winfried Schaefer.

German veteran Schaefer announced on Thursday he was leaving after little more than a month at the helm, preferring to take charge of Jamaica on a short-term contract.
The 63-year-old, who led Muang Thong to three league wins in four games, said his job at the Thai club was done, having helped them get back on track in their title defence.
Muang Thong, who have won the TPL title three times in the last four years, currently sit second in the 18-team league.
“After a few nice weeks with Muang Thong my adventure in Thailand comes finally to an end,” read a post on the German’s Facebook page.
“Like I told you before I stayed with Muang Thong as a friend, [I have] helped them to bring the team back on track. That mission was successful, everyone [who] watched the last [few] games saw a team full of confidence, inspired by team spirit and a strong will to success. In the future we can expect a lot of them.”
Despite facing a difficult few months towards the end of his reign as the Thai team coach, Schaefer said he cherished his time in the country and thanked the fans for staying loyal.
“In spite of all difficulties and all the trouble, I loved my time in Thailand. Because you are all lovely and fair, supportive and simple good friends. You made my time in Thailand a good time.
“Now there is another great task for me. I will coach the national team of Jamaica for a while. We still have a small chance to qualify for the World [Cup] in Brazil and it would be great if you could support us from time to time. All the best for you.”
Muang Thong director Ronnarit Suewaja said Belgian coach Desaeyere, who is returning to the club for a second spell after taking charge of the team two years ago, had always been a target when it came to finding a new trainer.
“Rene was always on our list but we were unable to sign him before due to certain conditions. In his first stint as Muang Thong coach, our team played the most entertaining football in the league and he led us to the title.
“Given his vast experience in Thai football plus his connection with players outside the country, he will be able to help us achieve our first and only target – to defend our league title,” said Ronnarit.
