People in tight clothing had the environment in mind when they hosted an event called “Siam Bike to Save the World” to encourage Bangkokians to get on a bicycle.
Siam Piwat, in collaboration with Siam Commercial Bank, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Art and Culture for Health Promotion, CGS (Thailand) and Crank magazine sponsored the gathering at Discovery Plaza.
Celebrities including Niks Anuman-Rajadhon, Teerakit Jurujinda and Pimpayap Srikarnchana told the crowd how much they’ve benefited from cycling and street artist Pharuephon “Mamafaka” Mukdasanit gave a bicycle frame a totally radical paint job.
Teerakit and Niks said riding has made them stronger and healthier, but Niks warned rookies that riding in urban areas can be hazardous, and especially in Bangkok despite the designation of several bicycle lanes. Be careful, wear a helmet and stick to the rules of the road, he said.
On display were rare bikes like old-school BMX bikes from the US, Japan and Taiwan, beautifully decorated Thai low-riders and Orbea models as seen in the Tour de France. People could buy parts and accessories and join a one-day “Bike to Plant Trees” trip excursion to Wat Phichaya Yatikaram Worawiharn in Klongsan district.
