Troubled Sisaket FC told they can play in TPL next season

The Football Association of Thailand have ruled in favour of troubled club Sisaket FC remaining in the Thai Premier League next year.

The Thai FA yesterday held a meeting to find a solution to the Sisaket case after the Supreme Administrative Court last week rescinded an injunction that had prevented the Northeast club from playing in the competition since the third round of league fixtures.
The meeting, presided over by the FA president Worawi Makudi, reached a resolution to suspend Sisaket, who are lying bottom of the league table, from playing in the TPL for one season before they return next term to the league, which will be expanded to 20 teams.
“We followed the court order and the suggestions from other TPL clubs who took part in the meeting today. We believed it’s impossible for Sisaket to resume their league campaign this season, which would cause negative impacts in many ways.
“So we decided to expand the league from 18 to 20 clubs from next season, with only the 17th-placed team in the final standings being relegated. The remaining 16 teams plus three promoted clubs from the second-tier league and Sisaket will make up the remaining 20 teams in the league next term,” said Worawi.
The FA boss further revealed that the results of the three matches Sisaket had played had been nullified, which has a major bearing on the league standings. Buriram United, with 55 points, have reclaimed top spot after Muangthong United’s point tally was reduced from 57 to 54 due to their 2-1 win over Sisaket being annulled.
