Europe has no record to be proud of

Richard Bowler brought up some interesting insights in his letter of September 16 about US actions on the international stage.

First, the US didn’t get involved in the Second World War in Europe until later because we didn’t have a dog in that fight. European nations sat for years watching Hitler re-arm Nazi Germany, with barely a peep. I don’t recall any requests for American opinion. Second, any chemical-weapons plants found in the Middle East have German and French fingerprints on them. Third, 600,000 Iraqis killed by daisy-cutter bombs? Only one estimate puts total casualties at 600,000 and they certainly weren’t all from those bombs. Fourth, does he think the weapon designers were thinking “how can we kill more little children?” Last but not least, when it comes to international aggression, the US stands in awe of the Europeans and their slaughter of native populations in Africa, Asia and South America.
