Boys aged 12 to 15 nationwide can apply for the competition until June 25, with the winning team earning the trip to manchester plus a trophy and Bt100,000 scholarship. They also get a chance to watch a match, yet to be announced, next season at Etihad Stadium, the home ground of English Premier League champions Manchester City.
Having revamped the competition that has been held since 2009 in partnership with the Manchester club, Waewkanee Assoratgoon, KFC country general manager at Yum Restaurants International (Thailand), was thrilled to offer young Thais an opportunity she said money couldn’t buy.
“KFC Seven Shoot will help make a dream come true for Thai teenagers who like football. They will have a chance to travel to Manchester to attend a training workshop with City staff during the nine-day trip. It’s a great opportunity to learn valuable lessons that will last them a lifetime.
“The tournament is part of KFC Thailand’s commitment to create sustainable development in community life by encouraging the children to spend time constructively, playing football. Sport has the power to connect members of a community,” said Waewkanee.
After the application period, the qualifying round will kick off across the country. Qualified teams will then represent KFC branches in a provincial round between August 2 and 10. The provincial winners advance to the regional stage, which takes place between August 21 and 24. The competition concludes in October with the national round, featuring 16 teams from six regions.
Stephan Cieplik, Manchester City’s Asia regional manager, said the club was looking forward to working with the Thai youngsters.
“As a club that is passionate about inspiring children to play football, we’re delighted to support the KFC Seven Shoot. It’s a privilege to be able to welcome the winners to Manchester and help them develop their skills,” said Ceiplik.
