I have never seen such a broad-scale attempt to embarrass the junta as that now being made by media and those who write letters to newspapers.
Let’s get some facts straight. The most difficult type of murder case to solve is a random murder. That is, one where the victims were picked out at random by a perpetrator who had no ties with them whatsoever. Police forces worldwide have great difficulty solving this type of murder. And yet, the Thai police force has been the victim of haranguing from minute one, as though they should have just conjured up the murderer the next day. Now they claim they have the murderers, and the same people who initially put the pressure on them are assuming that police are “railroading” the two suspects.
Burin Kantabutra tells us that maybe they are not guilty of the crime and maybe they are showing signs of being emotionally disturbed because they are innocent. He even brings the rabble-rousing Amnesty International, which is always looking for something to do, into the mix.
Well Burin, maybe they are guilty and maybe they are nervous because they have been caught. That is possible also – though not to people who have an agenda.
It seems that people who are afraid to directly criticise the military government are instead venting their frustrations through peripheral issues such as this one. It also seems that there is still a great political divide in Thailand. Let’s hope that the present government can solve it.
