While the 'free world' pushes and penalises, Russia offers real friendship

Re: "Thailand must not be seduced by Russia", Letters, November 27.

I would like to thank Mr Martin Kautz, a German tourist in Thailand, for his letter. It is exactly what the readers need in order to have a more balanced understanding of the modern-day realities. One of these realities is a so-called “free world”, which is always pushing, pressing, demanding, sanctioning, imposing. And there are other countries which simply offer their friendship and partnership.
I am sure Mr Kautz knows who pushed Ukraine to make a choice between Russia and the European Union. And now we see what happened as a result of this ultimatum. We read in his letter that “Thailand has a choice to make”. Why? The world has not grown smaller. It has grown much bigger than before. And it is no longer black and white. Nowadays you can be a partner of everybody. Maybe this is the greatest achievement of human society since the USSR and the US wrapped up their Cold War.
Yes, Mr Kautz, I love fairytales, including those written by talented Germans like Ernst Hoffmann and the Grimm brothers. Do you like Russian fairytales? Have you read them? They are wonderful. Fairytales reflect people’s faith in the good and make them better. But your angry and aggressive tone made me shiver. I would wish you to be a proud compatriot of great German writers of the past and a worthy representative of a German nation, which, by the way, was liberated by the Soviet Union from Nazism 70 years ago, and 25 years ago was supported by Moscow in its struggle for unification.
If you have time, Mr Kautz, please come to the Russian Embassy, where I will show you a long list of flagrant violations of international law by the so-called “free world”, and tell you more about the bright prospects of friendly Russian-Thai relations.
Kirill Barsky
Russian Ambassador in Thailand
