Just who, exactly, are traffic police protecting and serving?

Why do the traffic police focus on minor traffic offences? People are usually pulled over for making bad turns, not wearing a helmet or for a document check, but have you ever seen anybody stopped for speeding on city streets or narrow sois?

Around 30 per cent of the farang I know here in Pattaya and Jomtien have been victims of reckless drivers’ speeding or dangerous sudden turns. My best friend is gone – not dead, but severely brain damaged by a hit-and-run accident near Jomtien and now living in sheltered housing back in Europe. Others have struggled to recover or been left with lifelong injury. So when are the police going to wake up and get their priorities right by focusing on road behaviour that kills or maims people, instead of concentrating on minor offences that bring in “tea money”?
It’s time the force made a turn for the better!
