Mr Ruangkrai seems to believe that Thai politicians are absolutely untouchable and above all laws.
Thailand has suffered for some time from political rogues who behave as if no law can touch
them. Recently Ruangkrai’s
claim was echoed in threats made by a main political party against judges who sentenced their leader to jail for corruption.
A politician accused of instigating arson attacks on government buildings across the country was awarded a Cabinet seat in Thailand’s last elected government.
Finally, while US Embassy officials were invited to a fact-finding meeting with the red-shirt leader in the Northeast, the leader of the then-opposition party was chased, with murderous intent, by the so-called democracy heroes from the North and Northeast. To this day, politicians from the same party still cannot meet their supporters in these regions, much less campaign for support.
