There's no mystery to the demand for submarines

Re: "Thailand should forget its love affair with submarines", Editorial, July 3.

While I applaud the sentiments of your editorial, I take issue with the headline. Thailand does not have a “love affair with submarines”. A few members of the naval brass who are totally divorced from reality have a love affair, but not the rest of Thailand, as is evident from the screams of protest from all quarters.
Your subhead says, “We still haven’t been told truthfully what they’re for.” Well, surely you don’t need to be told – the answer is obvious. These are nothing more than toys for a few selfish boys.
Defying everything, they went ahead and built a submarine base and training school, so now they are determined to get the subs so they can amuse themselves to their hearts’ content.
Cabinet should throw this one out and tell the Navy to get on with its real job.
