The majority of respondents to a new poll want the country’s next constitution to be easy to comprehend, concise, comprehensive and difficult to revoke.
The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) led by Meechai Ruchupan should take these public desires to heart.
It would be best if the charter draft were put to a referendum as well, to ensure public participation in the drafting process.
Members of the CDC should realise the gravity of the task at hand, namely the drafting of a constitution as required by the people.
Most importantly, they must realise that it takes the foresight of statesmen to do this job, not the nit-picking of lawyers.
