Thai compassion and pragmatism at its best

Re: "Two families bond over stolen child", National, November 10.

The case in which a new-born baby was abducted from a Khon Kaen hospital, raised by her abductor in Chaiyaphum as her own, and exposed four years later when the baby-snatcher presented a fake birth certificate at a kindergarten, has culminated in a truly Thai solution.
First, the girl was lucky to be stolen by a woman who wanted a child of her own rather than to sell for profit. (Even so, the abductor must pay for her crime, of course.)
Second, the 4th Region police team that investigated the case should be commended for its untiring efforts and eventual success.
Third, the family of the abducted girl, together with that of the alleged abductor, have agreed to let bygones be bygones and combine efforts to take care of the child so that she receives more love and attention, not less. Their unity in this goal should be lauded.
Let’s hope this drama, which began on such a melancholic note, now has a happy ending.
