Fate of anti-trafficking cop speaks volumes

Numerous letter-writers have expressed outrage over the horrible mistreatment suffered by Maj-General Paween Pongsirin after he led a crackdown on human trafficking.
But, as I have been saying since Day 1, once you lose your freedom there is no guarantee you’re going to get it back. How many correspondents to this column have insisted that the junta would end corruption and injustice and then restore freedom and democracy? On what planet are these people living? Do they know anything about history?
I believe I deserve an apology from those who accused me of being a bad guest in this country for simply pointing out that you don’t achieve freedom and justice by first taking it away.
