A true taste of Italy

SIAM PARAGON and Italian Embassy join up to celebrate Thai-Italian relations next month, staging a mini concert by leading Italian jazz artists Simona Molinari and Mauro Ottolini and the Sousaphonix at the shopping centre during the Italian Grand Weekend running from May 6 to 8.

Regarded as the queen of electro-swing, a musical fusion that is conquering Europe and the UK at the moment, Molinari’s Thai debut will see her performing such hits as “Egocentrica”, “Croce e Delizia”, “Tua”, “Dr Jekyll, Mr Hyde” and “Casa Mia”.

A frequent performer in Hong Kong, Macao, Shanghai, Beijing and Japan, Molinari is much appreciated by Asian audiences for her delicate and charming voice. She has collaborated with world-renowned artists including Brazilian Gilberto Gil and Andrea Bocelli and is the only Italian artist to have performed at all three Blue Note clubs in Tokyo, New York and Milan.

Mauro Ottolini and the Sousaphonix will introduce the Thai audience to Italian contemporary jazz. A trombone and tuba composer, Ottolini is one of Italy’s most eclectic and experimental jazz musicians. He is the leader of the Sousaphonix, a creative and original ensemble of six musicians who create eclectic and energising music with hues of blues and tinges of reggae.

For this concert, Ottolini and the Sousaphonix will perform his classics including “Jazz Funk, Ecological Island”, “Smile, Slide Family, Ottovolante”, “Tall Stories, Gipsy Blue”, “Sousaphonix”, “The Sky Above Braddock”, “I Separatist Bassi”, “Bix Factor” and “Musica per una Societa Senza Pensieri Vol 1”.

Visitors to the grand Italian weekend can delight in authentic Italian food and beverages prepared by famous restaurants. Sorrento will offering its signature Burrata Salad and a pasta seasoned with Parmesan cheese along with drinks concocted by Pongpak Sudthipongse, a |world-class bartender. Signor Sassi will serve Creme Brulee Foie Gras and there’s coffee from illy, which will also be hosting a latte art workshop.
