Expats’ latest visa fears are groundless

Re: “A bleak future for expats who put down roots?”, Letters, December 7.

Dear old Eric Bahrt is getting paranoid once again. Nobody in authority has suggested that the proposed 10-year tourist visa will replace the one-year option for retirees. The negative interpretation has cropped up in the Letters page only because a Nation columnist speculated in a single sentence it might be so.
Seeing enemies under every stone and sensing conspiracies all around are features identified with Donald Trump. Stop jumping every time your raw nerve is exposed, Eric. But if your 12-month visa is cancelled along with thousands of others, I will be delighted to buy you a coffee at the airport.
