We’re all going to need some new names

Re: “A new name for the Americans”, Letters, January 27.

Now that the Anglo-Saxon world seems to be heading into a new era of isolationism, I am also concerned as to what the peoples of the US and the UK should be known as.
Now that the UK has voted for economic suicide, the people there can be called Old Blightians, a term of global origins from their once-great empire. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word “Blighty” derives from bilayati – a regional variant of the Urdu word vilayati, meaning “foreign”, “British”, “English” or “European”.
Regarding the Yankees, now that the chief Yankee has ensconced himself in Washington DC as Yankee Doodle Donald, it appears that those living in other parts of the US will be less thrilled with his example of being called Yankee. It is a description of those in the north anyway.
May I suggest the name Usonian, since it is rather inward-looking and might reflect the new architecture of a Trumpist America that he hopes to build.
Regarding the new wall, it is the Great Wall of the Gringos, of course.
