Trump believers are the ones to worry about

Eric Bahrt’s high-impact and forthright judgement on Trump’s mendocracy is well aimed and apposite. In support, I would like to add a few thoughts of my own:

As the old aphorism would have it, if you repeat a lie often enough, people will start to believe it. This is best exemplified by Trump’s blatantly serial dissembling both before his poorly attended inauguration and now in the early stages of his watch. That said, lies cannot harm anyone if no one believes them. The real problem, as the Observer’s Nick Cohen informs us, is with the believers. Propped up by a post-modern fascist such as putative free-press silencer Steve Bannon (and cheered on by the likes of the Ku Klux Klan), Trump lurches from one out-of-his-depth calamity to the next. Perhaps this is what is really meant by “infotainment”, to depart slightly into flippant mode.
Recent events inside the US emphatically show a grossly misleading administration. We have “alternatively factual” inauguration crowds and mythically stolen popular votes. Trump has taken a wrecking ball to domestic prosperity by applying a political tourniquet to stem the inflow of highly educated professionals, the very life-blood required to improve any national economy.
As with much of Trump’s irrational knee-jerk inanity, the further “alternative fact” of his immigration policy is exemplified by the calculated insult directed at (so-called) federal judge James Robart – a George W Bush appointee, no less.
