US Embassy approves eight in 10 visa applications

The Nation chose to feature an anonymously written letter, which accused the United States of bias against issuing visas to Thai citizens. In 2016, the US Embassy Consular Section approved approximately 60,000 Thai visa applications, or around eight of every 10 Thai applications. Over 40,000 of these visa approvals were to tourists or Thais going to the United States to conduct business, and another 13,000 were to students or participants in cultural or educational exchange programmes. The remaining 7,000 approved visa applications represented a broad range of purposes of travel to the United States.
