Trump is clueless about Nato
It looks like US President Donald Trump has made his presence felt in a big way by rebuking fellow Nato leaders on Thursday for their failure to meet the Brussels-based military alliance’s financial benchmarks.
Nato leaders seem to have greeted Trump’s dressing-down with considerable indignation – judging from their stern faces and occasional exchange of awkward looks in the face of Mr Trump’s scathing remarks.
Be that as it may, Trump seems to have forgotten the fact that the US has on many occasions called upon Nato for support.
For example, the war in Iraq would not have been successful without Nato’s corroboration and support, while Russia would have succeeded in its attempts to occupy Eastern Europe without Nato’s presence.
The US leader’s lack of awareness of the goings-on in the world is amazing.
For the record, Trump declared in his speech at the CIA in January that, during the time the US and Nato were occupying Iraq in 2003, “we should have kept the oil”. He added: “But okay, maybe we’ll have another chance.”
