Time’s passage made more ‘bearable’

Time’s passage made more ‘bearable’

Hermes’ unusual Slim d’Hermes wristwatch depicts an encounter between a gruff bear and the delicate technique of miniature enamel painting. Alice Shirley’s “Grrrrr!” motif designed for Hermes silk scarves makes an appearance.

With each pigment applied to the white-gold dial, the animal’s expression becomes more daunting. Between each layer, it must not weaken during the drying and firing stages, calling for faultless precision. It even gains intensity during the process.

Once the portrait of the bear is complete and duly protected by translucent enamel, the watch definitely lives up to its name.

Hermes creates objects shaped by the hands of artisans to make them true companions for those who wear them. Practical, functional and stemming from expertise, they radiate the lightness of the unexpected.

The case is done with sapphire crystal and caseback with anti-glare treatment, while the strap is smooth burgundy alligator. It’s water-resistant to 30 metres.

At the heart of the large 39.5mm model beats the Manufacture Hermes H1950 ultra-thin movement.

The integration of a micro-rotor serves to slim down this self-winding calibre that now measures just 2.6mm. Like other models from Hermes, this movement is adorned with the signature “H” motif, while the bridges are hand-bevelled, in keeping with watch-making traditions.
