Fox News’ right-wing commentator Tucker Carlson has done three consecutive programmes on Harvey Weinstein, the movie producer accused of abusing women, and has made him the lead story each time. Of course Tucker couldn’t care less about sexual abuse or he wouldn’t have supported Trump in the first place. But because Weinstein has been associated with leading figures in the Democrat Party Tucker is acting as though the Weinstein scandal is the most important issue in the world
today.
No less outrageous is the fact that Fox News commentators are still taking pot-shots at the football players who refused to stand during the national anthem. Trump deliberately turned that into a national issue to take our minds off the fact that he’s a horrible president, and Fox News happily took the bait.
Meanwhile, I write a letter asking JC Wilcox the perfectly legitimate question of how he can call himself an advocate of family planning when he supports a president who is trying to destroy family planning programmes throughout the world. Instead of Wilcox answering my question, another letter-writer responded with a tirade against Planned Parenthood and even Palestinian rights, thus bringing the tactic of diversion to an unprecedented level of absurdity.
Pity the poor Trump supporters. They have no other way to defend themselves since they can’t defend his record.
