Driving test waits so long that people might skip licence

It’s little wonder that so many Thais are on the road without a driving licence.

My adopted Thai son has just completed his military service and returned home to Rayong, where over the past few weeks I have been teaching him to drive a car.
He applied to sit his driving test, but there are no vacant appointments in Rayong before the end of September.
Thinking to circumnavigate this blockage, he telephoned nearby Klaeng for an appointment. The earliest there is December.
Something is seriously wrong here. A young man wants to do the right thing and legitimise his driving, but has to wait months to do so.
