In “Lost in transitive action”, Nigel Pike rightly corrects an editorial boo-boo that I too had noticed. I winced when I saw the horrid construction “Somsak Pola is considering changing his political stance to join ... I”. I didn’t believe Nigel could possibly have written that, and I’m glad to have my faith in his literacy restored. But as I understand things, the alt-right is basically a fascist grouping, dedicated, among other deviancies, to the adulation of the loathsome Donald Trump. If so, I would beg Nigel, Somsak, and anyone else who may think about joining it, to come over to the Bright Side.
In “They let anybody in?”, Somsak expresses doubts about the wisdom of moving over to the Dark Side, and asks if you don’t have to be white to get in. From what I think I know about the alt-right, you probably do, but they may have a relatively liberal (naughty word!) wing that will let you in if you’re beige, brown, or black, just so long as you agree to sit submissively in the back of the bus, eat at segregated lunch counters, and don’t object if men in white hoods burn down your house and lynch you occasionally.
Finally, in “Rohingya return still elusive”, Marcus Caesare says the Bengalis “were all Buddhists prior to subjugation by Islamic invaders”. The Bengalis were Hindus, Marcus, and a lot of them still are, especially in the Indian state of West Bengal.
